Customs changes explained

Reading, UK: Tom Southall, policy director at the Cold Chain Federation, explains the implications and likely next set of customs changes for imports coming into force, in the latest Cold Chain News Digest – May issue, out now in digital format.

Last month, the government said the introduction of sanitary and phytosanitary checks for imports, due to be introduced in stages from 1 July, would not be going ahead.

Instead, ministers announced a review of the future processes and committed to introducing an improved way of handling EU imports in late 2023. The Cold Chain Federation played a key role in this decision, Southall says.
