Rotterdam, Netherlands: D-Farm has won the 2nd Cool Logistics Innovation in Perishable Logistics Award for its innovative use of information technology to boost agricultural production.
D-Farm agriculture system uses blockchain big data to improve transparency and trust along the fresh produce supply chain and was selected by the judges for the innovation that is “a real step forward in achieving collaboration, transparency and visibility in the end-to-end agricultural chain”.
D-Farm’s founder, Venkatesh Babu Vadlamudi, who accepted the award, said that the first phase of dFarm project was to sell the produce before it harvested via information exchange available directly from the farmer on daily harvesting dates and stock availability.
Hemdahl received the Highly Commended Award for its system based on existing telematics data to determine the effect of temperature excursions on food and pharma perishables.
The winners were chosen from a seven-strong shortlist that included:
• Carrier Transicold for its active controlled atmosphere system for refrigerated container cargoes
• Coldcubed for a system of recyclable materials to ensure even and accurate pulp temperatures in sensitive fruits carried in containers
• DFarm for its agriculture SCM system using blockchain, IoT and big data to improve transparency and trust along the fresh produce supply chain
• Genmark for its environmentally-friendly genset design
• Hemdahl for its system based on existing telematics data to determine the effect of temperature excursions on food and pharma perishables
• Temp-Ex/Sedef for a modified atmosphere thermal pallet cover for fresh fruits and vegetables
• Tiger Cool Express for its carbon neutral intermodal rail service
350 participants spanning 33 countries are attending Cool Logistics Global 2020 with host port the Port of Rotterdam, Europe’s leading cool port hub connecting sea and landside perishable logistics. The three-day event includes a series of sessions and panel discussions and networking events to ensure the Cool community can continue to exchange the industry’s main challenges and concerns.
