DFDS buys cold store in Liverpool

Liverpool, UK: The UK cold chain business unit of DFDS has acquired a 21,000-pallet cold store in Liverpool, two years on from taking over the lease of the site.

The acquisition further underlines DFDS’s commitment to expanding its cold chain logistics services and provides a strong platform in the North West of England to grow its business from, says DFDS.

Matt O’Dell, managing director of DFDS’s UK cold chain business unit, says: “As we continue working to enhance our cold chain offering, we’re delighted to be adding the Liverpool facility to our network.

“Ownership of this store is a major move for our UK cold chain operation and supports our long-term growth strategy. Not only will it allow us to expand our domestic offering, but also help strengthen our overall ability to continue to offer premium cold chain solutions in the UK and beyond,” he said.

The Liverpool cold store has capacity for around 21,000 pallets, including an automated chamber holding over 12,400 pallets.

The cold store operates at -21 degrees and is supported by an on-site transport fleet, as well as DFDS’s usual value-adding services, including blast freezing, container de-vanning, temperature-controlled distribution and customs.

“I’m very pleased that we are now strengthening our service to an important industry, while at the same time ensuring long-term security for our 58 colleagues and customers,” says regional director Andy Thompson.

DFDS took over full ownership of the 21,000-pallet cold store in Liverpool on 20 April 2022.
