First e-reefer powered by solar, battery, and recuperation energy through a three-party partnership

TIP Group is partnering with SolarEdge e-Mobility and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe GmbH to launch a unique solar-powered e-reefer with energy recuperation axle. This innovative solution highlights the companies’ commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing clean energy solutions in transportation, by leveraging energy from both the trailer’s axle and the sun.

Named Powered Trailer, this e-reefer represents a game-changing development in logistics, integrating various renewable energy sources—battery, solar, and recuperation energy—to power the refrigeration unit with free-of-charge clean energy. The fully electric MITSUBISHI TEF1500 refrigeration unit, with the highly efficient inverter technology, completely replaces the diesel engine normally used for trailer refrigeration with an electric-powered solution, resulting in significant savings by eliminating fuel costs for cooling.

TIP Group is renting this eco-friendly and cost-effective solution to Zippel Fresh, which will pilot the solution over the coming months. With its ability to reduce carbon emissions and operational expenses, the Powered Trailer is an attractive option for fleet operators seeking long-term sustainability.

This collaboration brings together industry leaders to create a solution that not only reduces carbon emissions but also delivers exceptional cost savings,” says Rogier Laan, Vice President Sales and Marketing at TIP Group. “The SolarEdge e-Mobility e-reefer is the first of its kind to combine and test all three power sources—battery, solar, and energy recuperation—into a single solution. This unique set-up allows us to deliver proven, effective solutions directly to fleet operators. By testing and validating these technologies ourselves, we empower our customers to focus on their core business while taking a significant step towards reducing fuel consumption and operational costs.”

“Our customers increasingly seek solutions that not only enhance sustainability but also streamline their operations. By integrating multiple renewable energy sources, we’re offering our customers a truly unique product that sets a new standard for efficiency and sustainability in transportation” adds Oliver Bange, Vice President Central Region at TIP Group.
