London, UK: Central Transport, the fleet engineering department of John Lewis Partnership, specified an Access XL lift for its Oxford Street store.
Its trucks deliver to the store front and rear and the the urban double-deckers required a two-stage lift to handle cargo on two levels while being able to stow away at the half-way point and maintain maximum capacity within the trailers’ 4m overall height.
Dave Wake, fleet engineer at the store, said: “We were looking for a replacement lift system which could combine loading flexibility with safety and ease of use.” John Lewis opted for the 10-tonne capacity, XL Multi-Deck from Access XL.
The safety gate locks with each platform position and the gate will open only when the platform reaches its designated floor level. A manual override provides for emergency operation.
“Our Oxford Street store presented a few delivery issues which are distinct from our usual RDC operation and I’m pleased to say that the Access XL team interpreted our technical and handling needs to produce the ideal lifting solution, Wake said.
