Berlin, Germany: Krone 3D Solar Telematics has won the 2024 Telematics Award from the Telematik Markt.de media group in the Container Logistics category.
The telematics package for freight forwarding and logistics companies tracks and monitors trailers and swap bodies in real-time – even autonomously and independent of the truck’s power supply. The system is continuously powered by a combination of solar energy and battery, and can operate autonomously for up to 50 days without sunlight.
Krone 3D Solar Telematics covers three dimensions. The first ensures vehicle location tracking via the GPS, Glonass, and Beidou satellite systems. The second dimension integrates door and temperature sensors that monitor and document door openings as well as the temperature inside the cargo area. In the third dimension, Krone Smart Capacity Management comes into play: using a camera, it provides not only real-time views of the cargo area and detects both freight and people but also helps manage cargo space utilisation.
“With this AI-powered technology, we enable logistics companies to avoid empty runs while simultaneously reducing their CO2 emissions. The precise documentation and seamless monitoring also ensure maximum security,” says Maximilian Birle, head of digital services, Krone Trailer (pictured above receiving the award).
The user-friendliness of Krone 3D Solar Telematics also impressed the expert jury: functions such as GPS tracking, temperature and door status monitoring, and real-time cargo space display can be accessed via both the Krone Telematics Portal and the Krone Telematics App. For easy evaluation, detailed reports and a portal view are available. Alarms for geo-fencing and door openings can also be set up. The app is available for iOS and Android, allowing fleet management ‘on the go’. The web-based software is accessible via mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones.
The award-winning Krone 3D Solar Telematics not only increases transparency in dispatching but also makes everyday tasks easier for drivers and warehouse personnel. “Constant phone calls become unnecessary, and even for parked swap bodies, no one is needed on-site to check the current status of the cargo area,” Birle says.
Since Krone 3D Solar Telematics is manufacturer-independent, it can be used with all types and brands of vehicles. The components are easy and quick to install. The system includes precise GPS positioning and allows for additional components such as door contact switches and temperature sensors to be connected via Bluetooth. Data transmission from the Krone 3D Solar Telematics system is handled by a multi-network SIM card.
The Telematics Award from the Telematik Markt.de media group is presented every two years to recognise outstanding development s in telematics.
