London, UK: The In-Tandem competition to find a warning symbol design to help prevent large vehicle/cyclist collisions has been inundated with entries and the organisers have extended the deadline for entries until May 31.
The competition judges seek an original warning symbol to help prevent large vehicle/cyclist collisions as cycle casualties increased beyond the 2,500 mark nationwide this year and with 20% of cycle accidents in London involving heavy goods sehicles.
Amanda Jackson, managing director of Tigerfish PR and In-Tandem judge says: “It’s great that we’ve received so many entries which kept arriving right up to the deadline; we made the decision to extend the closing date to give people a greater chance to enter.”
“We’ve been overjoyed by the quality of entries submitted from all ages and all backgrounds and support we have received from both cyclist and supply chain management press,” she says.
The hazard symbol, which must fit within the unique pentagon shape, will be placed on the back of large vehicles in the UK to remind drivers to be vigilant in their watch for cyclists whilst serving as a warning to riders that extra care is needed if passing a large vehicle on the nearside is unavoidable.
As well as the first £1000 prize, entrants can win 2 Freight Transport Association-sponsored second prize bikes worth £500 each. All prize winners, including three, third prize winners, will receive a set of distinct Bicygnals’ illuminated Angel’helmets and light indicator sets worth £84.00 each, to enhance their safety on the road.
