Morrisons consults on cutting roles in chilled operations

Bradford, UK: Morrisons is looking to cut the number of staff working in its chilled operations as part of a restructuring of its logistics network. According to the Grocer magazine, Morrisons wants to consolidate the number of warehouse managers at seven of its distribution centres under a single operations manager role. Some of the company’s chilled operations staff could be cut as part of the shake-up.

The company has begun a consultation programme over the changes. As part of the consultation process, which is expected to be completed in late April, workers will be offered alternative roles where possible.

The distribution centre at Bellshill, which is run by a third party, will not be affected by the proposals.

A Morrisons spokesperson said that the proposed restructuring should lead to a “more responsive and simpler structure”.
