NewCold reaches construction milestone in Canada

Coaldale, Canada: NewCold’s first automated warehouse under constructon in Canada has reaching one-third of the total height. When completed it will be 40 meters high.

“This milestone is a significant moment in NewCold’s global growth story,” said Jonas Swarttouw, Chairman, NewCold North America.

“Our Coaldale facility will introduce innovative end-to-end solutions in Canada’s cold chain industry and support the fast-growing food processors in South Alberta to better ship goods to domestic and export markets.”

The collaboration among Alberta’s government agencies was crucial in bringing the investment to fruition. The Government of Alberta contributed $2.1 million through an Innovation and Growth Fund grant for NewCold’s expansion, while the Town of Coaldale expedited operations and continues to provide strategic development support.

“This project has only been possible due to partnerships. Partnerships within NewCold, partnerships with our suppliers, and partnerships with Team Alberta-Coaldale,” Swarttouw said. “The pro-business environment has worked hand-in-hand with us to identify permitting and infrastructure constraints, and actively work with us to take them away.”

“We are committed to becoming a long-term community member, both in Alberta and Coaldale. We will locally recruit and train a team to operate the facility, recognizing that people are the ultimate drivers of long-term success,” said Swarttouw.

The warehouse is expected to be operational by spring 2025.
