Burtenbach, Germany: Growth in telematics use by operators has been boosted by open access to systems.
Kögel Telematics has offered open interfaces to all conventional telematics portals as standard since 2018. Now, operators using Schmitz Cargobull and Krone telematics systems can also access each of the systems regardless of the telematics hardware installed or the telematics portal used. Both manufacturers have opened their standardised interfaces for the respective other system.
“For transport companies, the topics of standardisation, data consolidation and thus open interfaces are becoming the new focus of attention”, said Ralf Faust, managing director, Krone Service.
Marnix Lannoije, managing director, Schmitz Cargobull Telematics, said in a joint statement: “Open data processing becomes highly important, not only for monitoring, securing and tracking the load, but for all automation processes around the trailer. Ultimately, our customers only look for one thing: they want to retrieve all vehicle data as quickly, easily and transparently as possible in order to manage their fleets even more efficiently.
Operators with mixed fleet of trailers can get a convenient overview of all their telematics data – regardless of their preferred telematics portal. “With this pragmatic solution, we have proved once again that the customer and their individual requirements are our top priority here at Kögel,” said Josef Warmeling, managing director for sales, Kögel.
“Standardised and open interfaces that offer compatibility with third-party systems guarantee efficient fleet management.”
The Kögel Telematics database allows data to be displayed in the clear, self-explanatory web portal and other fleet management systems, but also to import it – in real time – into existing processes and a host of software systems. The Kögel Telematics web portal or any other mainstream system can be used to evaluate this data as needed, the company says.
