London, UK: Road Haulage Association managing director Richard Smith has met the new Future of Roads minister Lilian Greenwood and set out the association’s key priorities.
Smith said: “I was delighted to meet the new Future of Roads Minister. I set out the key priorities facing our members across the country and our commitment to working in partnership with her to solve the challenges ahead.
They are:
▪ Cost pressures facing operators with average margins of 2%
▪ Boosting roads investment – nationally and locally
▪ Improving driver facilities and addressing the major parking shortage
▪ Skills shortages – the need to boost the number of vehicle mechanics and continue HGV skills bootcamps
▪ Greater clarity and certainty needed on the transition to net zero
