Thermo King cools A2B Finland’s electric home delivery fleet

Helsinki, Finland: A2B Finland, which has pioneered ecological transport in Finland, has expanded its home delivery fleet serving the Helsinki area.

A to B is using new electric Mercedes E-Sprinter vans with Thermo King’s E-200 fridges and Peugeot E-Expert vans with B-100 Eco fridges.

The E-200 unit has a Thermo King lithium-ion battery pack to increase the vehicle’s autonomy and ensure hold-over capacity during deliveries.

“Our entire fleet is powered by renewable fuels, including vehicles running on biogas produced from waste and on electricity generated by wind power. This fleet annually saves 400,000kg of CO2 compared to a equivalent diesel powered vehicles,” Tero Kakko, chief executive, A to B Finland, said.

“With our operations, we’re setting an example of what’s possible in terms of battling the climate change and local emissions,” he said.

“Home delivery continues to expand, and clean technologies are critical to address environmental challenges, reduce loss of foods and medicines. We take pride in partnering with companies like A2B Finland and together creating zero-emission last mile distribution,” said Francesco Incalza, president, Thermo King (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

“Thermo King continues to advance electrification of the refrigerated transport to reduce pollutants, emissions and noise as the goods are transported throughout the cold chain. We will keep working closely with our customers to meet their needs and support their efforts for sustainable transport and deliveries.”

Electric-powered delivery vans like the Mercedes E-Sprinter, coupled with the Thermo King E-200 meet current and future sustainability targets, Thermo King says.

The E-200 units, being inverter driven, unlike typical direct drive solutions designed for diesel combustion engines, deliver constant capacity and work with electric-powered vehicles like the E-Sprinter. The battery pack is integrated it with the E-200 units’ power management, which contributes to lower energy consumption, increased vehicle autonomy and higher efficiency and reliability, Thermo King says.
