UPS Healthcare to buy 200 temperature-controlled vans

Budaörs, Hungary: UPS Healthcare is spending over €20m buying 200 temperature-controlled vans to boost cold chain capabilities in Italy, France, the Netherlands, and Hungary.

With 80% of pharmaceutical products in Europe currently needing temperature-controlled transportation, there is a greater need for cold-chain transport than ever before. This is why UPS decided to commit to this new investment in healthcare logistics.

Hungary is a major hub in the ground cold chain network of UPS and the company’s Budaörs hub is the key site in the region for connecting UPS Healthcare network for import and export.

The new vehicles will add to UPS’s fleet of more than 1,100 cold chain vehicles. Supporting long-haul and last-mile deliveries, the vehicles will help meet the growing needs of Europe’s healthcare industry across the entire region, with the cold-chain market projected to reach $23.bn by 2030.

The new dual-temperature vehicles provide transport between 2 to 8 degrees and 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. This GDP-compliant service includes comprehensive vendor management and digital quality management systems ensuring all customers’ quality requirements are met, UPS says.

UPS Healthcare’s global network of healthcare-compliant distribution space topped 1.7 million sqm in 2023, more than doubling warehouse space compared to 2020. Through acquisitions of Bomi Group, MNX Global Logistics and Chabas Sante, UPS Healthcare has expanded its end-to-end cold chain capabilities, enabling customers to reach new markets more flexibly.

“Whether it’s small parcels or large pallets, our pan-European end-to-end active cold chain ground network is equipped to manage the most complex healthcare products. From transporting active ingredients or last-mile deliveries to hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, and patients, we can provide control, adaptability and real-time monitoring to simplify even the most time and temperature-sensitive supply chains,” said Felipe Morgulis, president of UPS Healthcare, Europe
