Vapour Sealing – What happens when moisture finds a way in?

What is it?

In refrigerated and frozen environments, maintaining an effective vapour seal is critical to protecting your facility. Vapour sealing protects external joints, interfaces and penetrations on the warm side of the insulation envelope, helping prevent warm, humid air and moisture from entering through these points and into the insulated envelope.

How does it happen?

Temperature differences between warm and cold environments can create a pressure difference. If a panel joint is compromised, warm, humid air can be drawn into the joint, allowing moisture to penetrate the insulation.

  1. WARM, MOIST AIR
Warm, moisture-laden air is drawn towards the colder environment
  2. MOISTURE INGRESS
Moisture enters the insulation through the compromised joint.
  3. FREEZING / ICE BUILD-UP
In freezer conditions, moisture can freeze and lead to ice build up.
  4. PANEL DETERIORATION
Ice build-up and moisture can lead to delamination and reduced performance.

Why does it matter?

PROTECTS INSULATION Helps prevent moisture ingress that can reduce insulation performance.

MAINTAINS PERFORMANCE Helps maintain consistent thermal performance and energy efficiency.

PROTECTS PANEL INTEGRITY Reduces the risk of moisture-related deterioration and damage.

REDUCES REMEDIAL WORKS Early intervention can help reduce future disruption and repair requirements.
