Well done Brakes and Bidfood

London, UK: Cold Chain News can report from personal experience of one its staff how good the Brakes and Bidfood government-funded food initiative is. “Well done to you both,” he says.

Brakes and Bidfood, have joined forces to support a new government initiative to ensure that food supplies reach the country’s most vulnerable people during the coronavirus crisis.

The initiative sees the two companies working to deliver thousands of weekly care packages to people at high risk from the virus not able to get easy access to food.

The companies worked at record pace to create a service reaching every corner of England, through their national depots. “Our security-checked, professional delivery drivers are hugely motivated and proud to be playing their part in serving their local communities in this fantastic endeavour,” said Andrew Selley and Hugo Mahoney, chief executives of Bidfood and Brakes, in a joint statement.

The food box delivery scheme for the extremely vulnerable also operates in Wales and Scotland.

The parcels are delivered to the doorstep weekly and contain more than 20 essentials including pasta, cereal, tea bags, fresh and tinned fruit, milk, bread and biscuits, as well as non-food items like toilet rolls and shower gel.
