World’s biggest coldstore operators identified

Arlington, Virginia, USA: The Global Cold Chain Alliance has published its Global Top 25 listing of temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics members.

The Global Top 25 also liosts the GCCA North American Top 25 and the largest operators in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

The lists are determined by total capacity of temperature-controlled space in GCCA membership.

GCCA warehouse members currently own or operate 188 million cubic meters of storage. Although most companies have increased their capacity since the list was last published in 2020, this was largely due to merger and acquisition activity.

“The Coronavirus pandemic showed the world just how important the cold chain industry really is. GCCA Members continue to expand into developing markets, and we are also seeing growth in emerging markets where cold chain services are most needed,” said Matthew R Ott, president, GCCA.

“As evidenced by this year’s Top 25 List, consolidation continues to play a major role in the growth of the largest players in the cold storage industry.”

The Global Top 25 currently 170 million cubic metres. The North American Top 25 operate 120 million cubic metres. The European Top 10 operate 29 million cubic metres, and the the Latin American Top 10 operate 10 million cubic metres.
