Arlington, VA Virginia, USA: The Global Cold Chain Alliance has published its annual Global Top 25 List. The Global Top 25 currently operates 6.26 billion cubic feet (177 million cubic meters).
The North American Top 25 operates 4.37 billion cubic feet (124 million cubic meters). The European Top 10 operates 1.18 billion cubic feet (33 million cubic meters). The Latin American Top 10 operates 441 million cubic feet (12.5 million cubic meters).
Regions worldwide reported increased capacity and several new companies joined GCCA in the past year.
Since 2020s lists were published, the following changes occurred:
- Global Top 25 capacity increased by 750 million cubic feet
- North America Top 25 capacity increased by 140 million cubic feet
- Latin America Top 10 capacity increased by 30 million cubic feet
- Europe Top 10 capacity increased by 140 million cubic feet
US companies top the global ranking: Lineage Logistics with 2,847,785,867 sq feet of space at number one, followed by Americold Logistics with 1,476,600,000sq feet, and United States Cold Storage with 423,328,689sq feet.
In Europe, the ranking is also dominated by Lineage Logistics with 640,895,921sq feet followed by New Cold Advanced Cold Logistics with 205,000,000sq feet of space. Constellation Cold Logistics comes in at number 3 followed by Americold Logistics, with 103,282,266sq feet and 70,700,000sq feet respectively.
GCCA warehouse members currently own or operate 7.39 billion cubic feet (209 million cubic meters). A total capacity of over 750 million cubic feet was added to the Global Top 25 since the publication of the 2022 lists, due to mergers and acquisitions activity as well as new facility assets coming online. This does not suggest the general industry grew at this pace.
“GCCA Members have continued to create and grow their networks around the world. The cold chain industry is continuing to see strong demand and continues to invest in sustainable infrastructure in both established and developing economies” said Adam Thocher, senior vice president, global programs and insights, GCCA.
“As evidenced by this year’s Top 25 List, consolidation continues to play a major role in the growth of the largest players in the global cold storage industry.”
