Turners plans truck park extension

Newmarket, Suffolk, UK: Turners has applied for planning consent to build a 40-space truck park near its depot.

The operator says the plans for its site in Exning  that have been submitted to East Cambridgeshire District Council include an area for drivers from other depots to park up and sleep in their cabs.

There will also be space where drivers of non-Turners trucks can stop before they unload, as well as spaces for tractor units and trailers to park for repairs.

No additional vehicles will be added to Turner’s fleet at the site currently authorised for 160 vehicles and 220 trailers.

In a statement to the council, the company says: “The overall design of the new lorry park has been formulated with the desire to blend in with the surrounding landscape.

Turners temperature-controlled division is accredited to British Retail Consortium standards and delivers to the food retail and processing sectors.  A core fleet of 300 vehicles handle frozen and chilled loads with a consolidation service for all temperatures from its Newmarket centre.
